Is Lap Band Surgery Good For Severe Asthmatics?

The rapid increase in obesity across the country has resulted in a number of serious health problems. Many of these health problems can deteriorate a person\’s quality of life and even shorten a person\’s life. One such health condition that is made worse when obese is asthma. Studies are now showing that there is a link between asthma and morbid obesity. For people who are suffering from severe obesity, lap band surgery has been shown to be an effective method of weight loss that reduces instances of severe asthma attacks.

Obesity has been proven to be a risk factor for such diseases as heart disease, some types of cancer, and diabetes. Now, research studies are revealing that obesity is a risk factor for asthma. For instance, studies now show the risk for developing asthma increases when there is a large increase in weight. When a person is seriously overweight, their breathing becomes shallow because their lungs do not expand as much as it would if one were a normal healthy weight. As well, in obese individuals, there is a chronic inflammation of the lungs which reduces the airway passage. The inflammation takes place in the fatty tissue. A narrower airway passage also means the airways will remain blocked when breathing normally which reduces oxygen exchange. The airways will contract more causing more asthma symptoms. Narrow airways in obese asthmatics are more likely to stay closed during normal breathing which results in reduced oxygen exchange which puts one in a higher risk category for pulmonary hypertension. As well, obese people are more prone to sleep apnea and gastroesophageal reflux disease which can make asthma worse.

The Top Bariatric Surgeons San Antonio Has to Offer Are Here

Bariatric surgeons in San Antonio can help you lose weight and keep it off by performing surgery that results in a decreased amount of food intake. The results can be dramatic and life-changing. But if one is thinking bariatric surgery is the right choice, what to do next?

First, consult with a bariatric surgeon of San Antonio to determine if you are a good candidate for the surgery. This consultation will determine if your weight level is such to warrant the surgery – a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more is usually required. Also, the doctor will determine if you are healthy enough in other factors, such as blood pressure, heart functionality, and others, to withstand the surgery. Some bariatric surgeries are, after all, invasive surgery.

In addition, your consultation with a Texas bariatric surgeon will help you understand more about the surgery. There are several types of bariatric surgery, but three are the most common and recommended by the American Medical Association: the gastric sleeve procedure, LAP-Band(R) surgery, and the gastric bypass surgery. You will also get answers to questions you have regarding which surgery is ideal for you, how long your recovery time will be for your particular kind of bariatric surgery, what your dietary guidelines will be after surgery, what other health benefits you may expect after surgery, and how much weight you will lose.

Why You Should Get Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery In Mexico

A simple, safe, and quick version of weight loss surgery is mini gastric bypass surgery. This type of surgery is decades-old and is thus tried-and-true.

With mini gastric bypass, or (MGB), patients have their stomachs separated into two separate pouches. One pouch becomes the new, much smaller stomach; the other is unused. This type of surgery reconstructs the stomach and intestines in a manner different from other forms of surgery.

Weight loss surgery is also called \”stomach stapling.\” It is a type of surgery that involves the reconfiguration of a patient\’s digestive track in order to help him or her lose weight. Because his or her stomach is reduced in size surgically, he or she no longer has the desire to over-eat. This means that the patient will eat much less and will thus lose many pounds of fat.

Who should consider MGB surgery? If you have a body mass index (BMI) that is considered severely obese (a BMI of at least 35) or worse, then you may want to consider the surgery. Otherwise your health could be severely impacted by your weight.
